Speaker: Jim McKinnon Topic: Life in Banking & Finance - Jim came to Texas from upstate New York in 1992. His wife’s family had moved to the Temple area and they joined them. The banking industry had gone through some difficult times in the 1980's so the move to Texas was good. He started with First National Bank in Temple which is now Extraco. He has been mostly a commercial/real estate loan officer. There are several types of banks such as Savings & Loan, Credit Unions, Community Banks, Regional Banks, and National Banks. There are advantages to each of these choices. Savings & Loans were mostly home mortgages but went out of business in the 80's. There was a stock crash in Oct 1987. Jim has been very active in the community. He has been a member of the Kiwanis Club, President 2007-08, Rotary Club, Temple and Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce, Advent Hospital Board, ASYMCA Board and more. He says it is time to retire now and make a plan to move forward.
